5 Key Marketing Videos

So perhaps you’re using video to market your brand or campaign. Seems easy enough in concept, but it’s worth thinking about what types of marketing videos are best. This all depends on your audience and the platform you’re going to use. If you’re in this position, we’ve got you covered. Here are the most common types of videos you can use for marketing and what platforms will help them to work best.

The brand film

This is the flagship movie. This is the big all-encompassing dynamic film that sits on the front page of your website. It’s key that this video is no longer than 90 seconds because this is the average duration now that you have to capture people’s attention when they land on your webpage. Brand films work best when they tell a story as this is the best way to capture your audience’s attention. Strong script writing is important here and remember to talk about what your audience wants to hear. What’s in it for them watching this video? This is key to help hook them in and stay interested in what you have to offer.

The video case study

Cases studies are a great way of diving into that story in more detail. This could be a story around your client or your customer or your organisation, told through the customers perspective or a mixture of people. The case of the video is generally maybe two to three minutes long so it’s a little bit longer than the Brand film. Typically you’d use a video case study in a sales meeting or a one-to-one presentation with a specific or more targeted audience. The case study for example could be based on a certain type of sector or industry your looking to target. People buy from people, so if you’ve got some good relationships with your customers it’s worth thinking about getting these on film.

Social snippets

These are quick fired, fast paced videos designed specially for social media. They can be anywhere from 10-45 seconds long. These types of videos you could do yourself and self shoot, for example, processes, people on site, newsworthy content, something that’s new or a quick update. These videos don’t need to be as professionally polished as your other content as they are here one minute and gone the next. Social snippets work well when they showcase something exciting, or fun or different to capture people’s attention while they are scrolling through feeds.

Explainer videos

Now explainer videos do exactly what they say on the tin, they explain things to your audience. Animation is used quite often for this type of video as it’s easy to convey messages in a short space of time. Particularly if these messages are more conceptual and can’t be captured on film. Explainer videos should present a problem and solution to your audience. This type of video is good for kick starting new projects or services. So this could be the launch of a new product, it could be the launch of a new program, it could be the launch of a new business. Explainer videos can be used to gain new funding and attract investment. It’s all about getting the wow factor behind your business, explaining something quick and easy and quite simply getting wider community and stakeholder support. These types of videos can be sent directly to customers or used again in presentations. They may also sit on relevant pages of a website or micro site as part of a wider campaign.

The ‘how to’ video

This is different from the explainer video as this shows the audience how to do something. All of us at some point will have watched a how to video on YouTube. They are ideal when you’ve got a new product and you’re needing a little extra help to solve a problem. Brands create ‘how to’ videos especially for their customers. It’s a great way to provide extra content and helpful information once a customer has purchased from you. Ideal for building brand loyalty and reducing customer related queries. These types of videos are best used on YouTube, especially when you combine keywords with them. People can then type in common questions and find your video and also your product. This will also help to build referral traffic to your website.

So those are five of the best marketing videos that brands should absolutely be using. We hope you’ve been listening carefully however, as we have a few questions about these types of videos for you to answer.
